Information about Chinese Mountain Club

Who are we?
CMCNY is a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 by a group of outdoor enthusiasts who devoted their leisure time to participate and organize outdoor trips for the local Chinese community. Today, CMCNY has more than 190 members and organizes more than 70 activities each year.

What do we do?
Hiking, biking, camping, skiing, backpacking, rock climbing, roller-blading, canoeing and more. Help preserve wildness area by cleaning trail paths, educate people to develop an environmental consciousness.

Who can join the Club?
Everyone is welcome. Whether you are a first time hiker or a sophisticated traveler. CMCNY offers all levels of activities to fit your own ability

Is it expensive to become a member?
Not at all. Because CMCNY is a nonprofit organization, we literately do not make any money from the activities. In order to maintain our day-to-day operation, CMCNY collects annual membership fees from $12.00 per person to $20.00 per family. All financial activities of the Club is available to the public. 

If I am not a member, can I still join the activities?
Yes. Most of the activities organized by CMCNY are available to non members as well.  However, some fees will be collected each time before the trip from nonmembers. For day hiking trip, the fee is normally $2.00 per person.  Fees for other activities might vary. Carpool fees also will be collected and paid to the drivers directly.

I have never participated any activity before, how do I get started?
You should contact the trip leaders who’s names are listed in the newsletter to verify if you have proper outdoor gear. Some readings from local library or online also helps.

Where do these outdoor activities take place?
Mostly within the tri-states (New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania) region. Day trips are usually within an hour driving distance from New York City.
